Nocte by Courtney Cole

REVIEWED BY Micky Barnard

Nocte (The Nocte Trilogy, #1)Nocte by Courtney Cole
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Thank goodness for reading time on a Sunday because this is the kind of book that grabs you and makes you hold on until the finish, only this book doesn't really finish. It's quite hard to categorise this book, I thought it was going to be one kind of genre, but it turns out it's not. The mystery is so thick it's like fog, so you read and read until the sky clears.

Calla is a Finn's twin. They live up a mountain in a funeral home surrounded by death. This becomes particularly difficult when their mother dies in a car accident. Calla is barely coping with her grief and guilt but she has the added responsibility of Finn and his mental illness. She lives in fear that this is going to be the thing that causes him to spiral into blackness. Dare is a piece of light in the darkness, he distracts her, brings hope and comfort to her raw existence.

Nocte is a book of secrets and surprises, nothing is as it seems and everything is unexpected. Courtney Cole has penned a unique book in Nocte. Some might say the ending is cruel in it's lack of answers, I'm just thankful I waited to read it until all the books are available. Highly recommended.
