This book is very different than the first book in this Has-Been series. I found the first book to be easy flowing with lighthearted humor, but this one has so much more depth. I found it impressive the authors are able to write both types of stories. They weren't going to give us the same thing over again.
The basis of this book is Rod's journey through addiction. The author's sense of humor still shines through, but the struggle of addiction is at the forefront. Rod's story presents how difficult addiction can be and how important the support of family and friends is to overcome it. For Rod, this support comes from the guys we met in the first book. I was happy to see them again with their brotherly bickers and funny remarks.
Crystal Amber alters Rod's view on life a bit. He's seeing all his friends settle down and toys with the idea that Crystal Amber is his chance to do that. I think the authors did a great job of portraying what an addicts relationship looks like and how hard getting clean together can be.
I was impressed once again with Kristin and Kat's work! This was a great story.
