How To Date A Douchebag, The Failing Hours by Sara Ney

REVIEWED BY Jess

The Failing Hours (How to Date a Douchebag, #2)The Failing Hours by Sara Ney
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I didn’t know you had it in you, Zeke.

I keep trying to think if I have ever read another book with someone so…BROODING, ANGRY, RUDE, AWFUL…and I cannot come up with anything. NO ONE. Zilch.

Ezekiel Daniels is not a nice guy. I mean, the book is called, THE FAILING HOURS, How to date a DOUCHEBAG #2. If that doesn’t provide you with some insight as to the kind of dude you’re going to read about, I don’t know what will.

So, let's get to the good stuff-
Okay, so he’s hot, sexy, strong, a wrestler, has money-but he is also the biggest, meanest dude, EVER. He has mommy and daddy issues coming out the wazoo, he not only treats women like crap, he also treats his “friends” like that as well. Zeke is really treading a fine line here, almost stewing in constant ire. He cannot contain his constant fury, except for the times he is with Violet.

Violet DeLuca is literally the light to Zeke’s dark. With billowing white-blond hair and a heart of actual gold, she is too good for the D-man. Violet is a nurturer by nature. She has ability to take all of her childhood woes and persevere through life with grace and forgiveness, showering her friends and family in her positivity. Without knowing it, Zeke is drawn to her. His bad yearns for her good. He CRAVES what she has, but cannot find it in him to act on it in an encouraging way. He knows nothing of love and kindness, never having been shown to him by the people who were to pave the emotional way for him. He cannot find it in himself to battle the inner demons he carries around, or the grudge he harbours for his parents. Taking it out on anyone is better than dealing with it himself. And his wrath is rough, harsh and unforgiving.

Violet is Zeke’s best shot. She can see the beautiful in him. The unyielding kindness he buries deep. She just has a hard time trying to get him to see it for himself. But she knows it’s there. With the help of her patience, kindness, and affinity to heal others emotionally, Zeke begins to see what kind of a man he is, and the man he WANTS to be. His inner strength eventually outweighs his physical and he defeats his most important match-the one he has with himself.

"I'm the last wrestler on the roster. The sooner I win, the sooner we can leave, and honestly, I wanted to get it over with so I could come home."
"What was the rush?"
"You know what the rush was."
"You picked a guy up off the ground, slung him on your shoulder, dumped him onto the mat, and pinned him in under a minute so you could get home sooner?"
"Home to you"
"To me?"
"Basically."

I really loved how Ney allowed Zeke and Violet to be so honest with one another. Even though they were complete strangers, I think they felt as though they were kindred spirits, completing the other. The Outlander references blew my mind, and even though this book was more on the dramatic side, I still found myself laughing along with their witty banter. Having James and Oz make an appearance was the icing on the cake for me.

Sara Ney has another hit on her hands, and I am completely looking forward to her next installment of this Dbag Series. I have a feeling I know who is next up on the docket. Overall, an awesome read. I was sucked in from the first word, all the way to the end.

Received an ARC in exchange for an honest review
